Beside the organ in Greenlaw Parish Church is a fairly unusual roll.
Why unusual?
Firstly, in contrast with WWI, rolls from WWII are fairly rare around here.
Secondly, it's a contemporary roll, written while the war was in progress.
It's evident it was originally half-filled, with names often added thereafter.
(Presumably as people joined-up).
Only 2 of the 4 men on the civic memorial are on the roll.
Adam Balmer (Merchant Navy) & Andrew Burns (Home Guard) the others.
By the looks of it Balmer had a couple of relations in the Royal Navy.
W Trotter, RAF, is also remembered by the font found beneath the roll.
ROLL OF HONOUR
"Be Strong and of a Good Courage... Lo, I Am with You Alway"
YOUR PRAYERS are asked for the following men from this town and district
now serving with His Majesty's Forces, that God may keep them in His Loving Care
